Rose Mary Urso Obituary

Rose Mary Urso, Dunmore, 87, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024 at home surrounded by the endless love of her children. Born in 1937 to Ignatz and Julia (Bakewicz) Drungell, she graduated from Scranton Technical High School and started her brief career working for Rosenthal Co. in Scranton. She soon met and married the love of her life, Epifanio "Abe" Urso on October 3, 1959, and they began building their family. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.

Rose Mary was an incredible woman and truly one of a kind. She was a compassionate soul with an endearing innocence and humor that filled many conversations with laughter. Yet, her strength, determination and perseverance revealed she was a true force to be reckoned with. A devoted mother raising eight children, then, helping raise her grandchildren and a few "extended"
grandchildren, she just loved babies and making delicious meals for her small army. Her pleasures involved creating. She was an avid crocheter and floral arranger making endless wreaths and arrangements over the years. She enjoyed her daily puzzles and the occasional adventures to a casino. She loved music and sang often in her younger years. Her famous apple pie was devoured on many holidays as well as Sunday dinners. If you were lucky enough to have a slice, you know the taste of her love baked into each pie. She lived simply yet profoundly, remembering to laugh and to mostly love each day. While our hearts are broken with her absence, we will always treasure her love and beautiful memories as we look to one day reunite with her and our dad.

Welcoming her to Heaven in addition to her parents and husband are her brothers, Thomas, Edward, David, Ignatius and sister Sophie and other beloved family and friends. Cherishing her memory and keeping her anecdotes and recipes alive are her sister Annette Shevlin & husband Patrick; Rose Mary's children: Maria (Dunmore), Theresa (Jessup), Marianne Long (Peckville), Lisa Urso-Cherry (Dunmore), Rose Mary Johnson & husband Robert (Duryea), Grace Shoemaker & husband James (Dunmore), Cataldo and Danielle (Dunmore); Grandchildren: Aden, Jessica, Katrina, Krystal, Lauren, Meghan, Nicholas, Seth; Great-grandchildren: Dominicus, Elijah, Jaylen,
Kaleb; Sisters-in-law: Janet and Barbara Drungell, Pam Schwartz & husband, Stanley, and Maryann Urso; additionally, many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

The children extend their deep gratitude to Dr. Nishant Sethi for extending her years with us, Dr. MaryAnn McDonald for her guidance, Sacred Heart Hospice for their excellent home care, and especially Dr. Mark Micciche for his compassion and caring, as well as his above and beyond healing efforts during the past 18 months.
