Salvatore Polizzi Obituary

Salvatore M. Polizzi, 93, a lifelong resident of Dunmore, died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Nicolina “Nell” Totaro Polizzi in 2002.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Cataldo Rosario and Santa Guarnieri Polizzi, he received his G.E.D at the age of 55.  Prior to retirement, Salvatore was a skilled employee at General Motors Company in Cleveland, OH, and owned Taylor Made Cabinet Company and Dunmore Cabinets, two businesses he took great pride in.  A military veteran, Salvatore served in the United States Army and in the 109th Infantry Pennsylvania National Guard.

Salvatore valued his family and was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and brother.  A proud Italian- American, Salvatore was a member of the San Cataldo Club, Dunmore, which his father was a founding member.  He was an avid reader, a crossword enthusiast, and most importantly enjoyed telling stories of his family’s past.  His nicknames were many but the name he loved the most was PopPop.

Surviving are four daughters, Pamela Polizzi, Frances Guzy and husband, Geoff, Donna Loughney and husband, Patrick “Nibs”, and Roseanne Siconolfi, and husband, Michael, all of Dunmore; a sister, Frances Siconolfi and husband, Louis, Olyphant, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Anthony Polizzi, Michael Polizzi, and Sarah Telesco.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. All those attending the mass are kindly and respectfully asked to social distance and are required to wear a mask. Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
