Salvatore W. "Sal" Mecca

Salvatore W. “Sal” Mecca, 91, of Dunmore, passed away on July 8, 2026. Born on December 16, 1934, he was the son of Sebastiano Mecca and Catherine Sileo, and spent his life rooted in the community he loved.

Sal married the love of his life, Mary Ann Zaleski Mecca. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this September.

A proud New York Giants fan, Sal approached every season with enthusiasm and loyalty. An avid outdoorsman, he was affectionately known as the “King of the Mountain,” a nickname earned through years of hiking, exploring, and finding peace in the natural world.

Sal was the founder and first president of the Dunmore Historical Society, a role he embraced with vision and determination. His leadership helped safeguard the stories, landmarks, and traditions that continue to shape Dunmore’s identity.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Bonita Irwin of Farson, Wyoming; his two sons, Brian K. Mecca of Madison Township and Leonard S. Mecca of Dunmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 16th at 10 am in the Dunmore Cemetery.
