Salvatore A. “Sal” Marchese, 81, Dunmore, died Thursday morning in Allied Services Hospice Center in Scranton. He and his wife, the former Ann Marie Mustaikis, celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Born January 26, 1942 in Scranton, son of the late Thomas and Josephine T. Nicosia Marchese, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1959 where he was co-captain of the football team. He then went on to attend Upsala College and the University of Scranton, and also served honorably in the United States Army Reserves. Prior to retirement, Sal had been employed in the banking industry, beginning his career at the former 3rd National Bank and later retiring from FNCB as the Senior Vice President of Indirect Lending, a department which he pioneered and established.
Sal was heavily involved with the Dunmore Lions Club for over 42 years and had served as its former president. He had been named recipient of the organization’s Melvin Jones Award as well as the Heart of a Lion Award in 2017, and also helped to launch the magic shows for Dunmore Elementary Center and St. Mary’s School. He additionally served as chairman of the Student Athlete Award Dinner for over 20 years, and as chairman of the Interboro Championship Game. Sal was also a member of the Elmhurst Country Club.
Sal was a good man, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his life and he made the world a better place by his unselfish devotion to his wife and children.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons Sal Marchese and wife, the former Danielle Regan, of Dunmore; James Marchese and wife, the former Noelle Fritch, of Dunmore; and Thomas Marchese and wife, the former Mary Randall, of Portage, MI; grandchildren Sal, Tyler, Sierra, Anthony, Rocco, and Onnolee Marchese; his sister Denise Theophila and husband Gary of Conklin, NY; his brothers Joseph Marchese of Rochester, NY; and Thomas Marchese and wife Lori of Athens, OH; sisters-in-law Carolyn Gealy of Old Forge and Ruth Dettore and husband Sam of Clarks Summit; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 9:30a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.
Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 4-7p.m. at the funeral home.
