Samuel Green, 94, of Scranton, passed away Monday morning at Celebration Villa of Mid Valley, Peckville. His wife, the late Jayne E. Green passed away on April 24, 2018. The couple had been married for 62 years.
Sam was born in Scranton on March 16, 1928. He was the son of the late Harold Green and Pauline Steltzer. He was a graduate of Central Highschool in Newark, NJ. Sam was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served our country stationed in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska during WWII. After his service, he attended College at Fairleigh Dickinson, NJ to become a draftsman. Sam never truly retired. He worked from the age of 9 until he was 92. He was a draftsman for Bellante and Clauss, assisted in the family fur business at Joseph the Furrier, and worked in his synagogue for 28 years known as, “the computer guy.”
Sam was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and the original t.v. repairman. He had a gift for understanding technology and loved his gadgets. Sam was happiest when he traveled with his wife and grandchildren. He missed his true calling of being a historian with how well he retained knowledge. Sam’s idea of an idyllic day involved a book, bowl of chicken soup, being surrounded by his family, and his favorite dog, Todd.
