Sanford Jerry Cohen, 83, of Los Angeles, California, passed away Tuesday morning, May 17, at UCLA Medical Center in California.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irene Ganz Cohen. He earned a Good Conduct Medal while as a sergeant E5 in the United States Army, received a Bachelor of Science at New York University, Master of Arts at University of Southern California, Juris Doctorate, JD at La Verne University Law School, and a legal mediation certificate from the LA City Attorney. Prior to retirement, he worked at Columbia Pictures, Filmation, and for 36 years at Universal Studios as a film and music editor, earning two nominations and winning an Emmy Award for his work on Miami Vice.
He is survived by his sister, Judie Terry; nephew, Randy Cohen; great-nephew, David Cohen; goddaughters, Jenny Lewis and Leslie Lewis; and cousins, Dayle Fragin, Kenny Ganz and Cynthia Martin.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 27, at 12:30 p.m. at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery in Dalton.
There will be no local shiva.
