Shirley A. Tolan, 91, Dunmore, passed away Thursday in Regional Hospital, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph H. Tolan, Sr., in 2019.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Michael and Irene Moore Krake, she was a graduate of Saint Paul's High School and a lifelong member of Saint Paul's Parish, Scranton. Shirley's love and dedication to her family was her passion in life. She enjoyed hosting countless family and neighborhood gatherings. Shirley also enjoyed watching sports, especially the New York Yankees and college basketball. Later in life, Shirley and her husband were proprietors of Tolan's Tavern in Dunmore.
Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Yarosheski and her husband, Mark, Peckville; Colleen Tolan, Dunmore; and Noelle Haddock and husband, Joseph, Roaring Brook Twp; a son, Joseph Jr. and wife, Christine, Dunmore; grandchildren, Matthew Tolan, Phillip Yarosheski, Alison Boast, Emily Ranella, Dr. Kyle Haddock, Sean Haddock, Abigail Haddock, and Joseph Tolan III; five great-grandchildren; her sister Helen Sweeney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Quinn, Florence Jacoby, and Raymond Krake.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Shirley's care team at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center for their exceptional compassion during her time of need.
The funeral will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St Paul's Church, Penn Ave., Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
