Stella I. Summa, 99, of Moscow died Saturday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Summa in 1988.
Born in Jermyn, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Bednash Petrusak, she was a graduate of Jermyn High School Class of 1940, Scranton State Hospital Nursing Class of 1944, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education at College of Misericordia in 1954, and went on to obtain her Master’s Degree from Marywood in Special Education. Prior to retirement, Stella was a teacher at NEIU 19.
Stella was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and the Scranton State Hospital Alumni Association. She enjoyed family gatherings and traveling, especially to the Jersey Shore and going on cruises.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter and caregiver with whom she resided, Ann Summa, Moscow; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by brothers Frank (Samuel) Petrusak, Henry (Stanley) Petrusak, and John Petrusak.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 208 Smith St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
