The Rev. Daniel Gwilym Jones, 92, of Dunmore passed away on February 20, 2025. He was born in Scranton on 23 April 1932.
Dan is the son of the late Sarah Buffton White Jones and Thomas Jones. He was married to the former Laura Dovaston Deykes of Dunmore whom he met in November of 1954, after serving 16 months in Korea in the United States Army. Laura and he were married in June 1959.
Before his retirement he served as Rector of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in North Wilkes-Barre. After retiring, he supplied Episcopal churches in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
His secular employment included, several local organizations; he retired from the American Red Cross Blood Services of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Hanover Twp.
Daniel volunteered at Moses Taylor Hospital in the Pastoral Care Department for more than 25 years.
He was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and is survived by Laura, his wife; Pamela Jones Shotto, his daughter; Warren Shotto, son-in-law; grandchildren Brandon and his wife Cynthia; Tyler and his wife Allyson; Spencer, Cooper, Lilly and Charlotte; and great-grandson, Fletcher.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary White Thomas, Harry White, Donald Jones, William Jones, Robert Jones and Thylda Jones Hills.
Visitation will be Monday morning from 11AM-12:30AM in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc.318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore . Services will follow at 1PM in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1780 North Washington Avenue, Scranton.
Daniel faithfully lived out his baptismal covenant and prayed each day for God to give him work until his life’s end and life until his work be done. So, now we say, well done, good and faithful servant. You may now enter into the joy of your lord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Church of the Good Shepherd, 1780 North Washington Ave, Scranton, Pa 18509 and to St. James-St. George Episcopal Church, 398 Washington Ave., Jermyn PA 18433.
