Thomas F. “Chick” DePietro, 71, Dunmore, died Thursday in Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his wife and soulmate, the former Judy Donnini, who he chased since the fourth grade, had celebrated 53 years of marriage on March 19th.
Born in Scranton to the late Frank L. “Chick” and Louise M. Caputo DePietro, He was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1970 and was a member of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish in Dunmore.
Chick was extremely proud of his entire family, his Italian heritage, and especially his granddaughters Danielle and Devyn. They gave him great joy. His face glowed whenever they were around. Chick was a great father and provider, wonderful husband, a very generous man helping many people, causes, and organizations.
He was presented the Pio Ferrario Christian Witness Award from SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish. Chick was a sports fan of the New York Giants, San Francisco Giants, Penn State, and The Dunmore Bucks. He was a member of the Willow Club and an associate member of the San Cataldo Club both in Dunmore. He enjoyed attending car shows with his 1963 Chevy Impala.
Chick was a very proud co-owner of DePietro and Sons Catering with his brother Frank “Chick” DePietro Jr. The business was started by their father Frank “Chick” DePietro Sr. and operated for 60 years. Although it was very hard work, there were many laughs to be had.
His family is confident that the sadness of his passing will soon be replaced by tears of joy and laughter. They wish to give special thanks to the Regional Hospital ICU unit, Dr. Henry Yeager, Dr. Wayne Weston, and Dr. Gregory Cali for the wonderful and compassionate care Chick received from them.
Also surviving are his daughters Janelle Hampton, Dunmore and Julie Wawrzynski, Elmhurst and their husbands who he loved as if his own sons, David and Joe, two sons Frankie DePietro, Dunmore and Tommy DePietro, two granddaughters, Danielle DePietro and Devyn Hampton both of Dunmore, a brother Frank and wife Maureen, Roaring Brook, Twp., sisters, Ann Burns and husband John, Marilou DePietro, and Janice McDonald and husband Brian, all of Dunmore and Rose D’Angola and husband Martin, Scranton, his aunt Angela Lorince, Dunmore, his mother in law Marie Donnini, Dunmore, sisters-in-law, Santa Burne and her husband Fran, and Rose Ciaglia and her husband Rick, all of Dunmore, a brother in law, Fred Donnini and his wife Theresa, Lake Ariel, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best little buddy, nap partner, and co-pilot, his dog Cole “Taz”.
He was preceded in death by a father-in-law, Fred Donnini, a sister-in-law Donna Gianzanti and her husband Paul “Ellie” Gianzanti, and nieces Britani Ciaglia and Michelle Burne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Cremation to follow.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4PM-6PM at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 East Drinker St., Dunmore. As per Chick’s wishes, please refrain from sending flowers.
