Thomas A. Ruddy, 74, Dunmore, died Wednesday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Lenore Calderone.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Thomas A. and Dorothy Troy Ruddy, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School, and went on to obtain his B.S. in mathematics from the University of Scranton and later his master’s degree in mathematics education from Marywood University. Prior to retirement, he served as Union President and Chairman of the Mathematics Department at Dunmore High School. He loved the oceans and mountains, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and kayaking. He adored his family, and cherished all of the trips to go visit them. Thomas had also been a dedicated friend to Bill W. for over 44 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Dr. Jean Ruddy, M.D. and husband Ed Scopelitis of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Kathleen Coyne and husband Atty. David of Scranton; son Thomas Ruddy and wife Venus of Marietta, GA; Timothy Ruddy and wife Kimberly of Plantation, FL; and Dr. Daniel Ruddy and wife Dr. Susan Habas of Arvada, CO; grandchildren Braden, Kailyn, and Emmit Ruddy; Olivia and Marilyn Ruddy; and Lainey and Nora Coyne; as well as nieces, nephews, and his cousin Mary Ellen Cawley, Long Boat Key, FL.
The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.
Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
