Thomas J. Langan, 88, West Scranton, died Thursday morning in Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. Born in Tripps Park, he was the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Reap Langan. He attended Scranton Central High School prior to his service in the US Army. He was employed by the US Postal Service until his well-deserved retirement which blessed him with the opportunity to pursue and enjoy his passions.
Surviving are a sister Judith Goffer and her husband Michael, their son, Attorney Michael R. Goffer, Waverly and daughters Alexandra and Taylor Goffer of South Carolina; a brother, Robert T. Langan, Scranton, and his children Jessica Langan Spangenberg, and sons Seamus and Finn Spangenberg, Brooks Lasher, Greenfield Township; Quinn Langan and wife Azaria Noud, of Colorado.
Upon retirement, Tom enjoyed his hobbies fostering lifelong friendships through his membership in the Tripp Park Golf Club, the Scranton Ski Club, and his employment at Montage Mountain on the Safety Patrol Team. He was an avid hunter and fisherman since childhood. One of his greatest joys was passing on his knowledge, skill, and sportsmanship to his beloved great nephews, Seamus and Finn. He spent many cold fall days in the woods with them tracking deer, sighting guns, patiently waiting in tree stands, making memories they will never forget. Tom had friends spanning various age groups that shared his love for the outdoors, skiing, and golf. They would all agree on one thing...although stubborn and grouchy he was a good person and friend.
