William L. Eynon, 75, of Dunmore, passed away Wednesday morning at Allied Services Hospice Center in Scranton. His wife, the late Anne Linda Egan Eynon, passed away Nov. 15, 2007. The couple had been married for 37 years.
Born in Clarks Summit, he was the son of the late Thomas and Sarah Lentz Eynon and was a graduate of Abington Heights High School and received a bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University. Before retirement, he was a health, physical education and adaptive learning teacher for the Abington Heights School District.
Bill's life revolved around his family. He was a devoted husband, dad and proudly wore the name “Grandpa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also lovingly known as “Uncle Billy” to many nieces, nephews and younger cousins. He had a passion for football, playing at the high school and collegiate levels. Bill coached at Abington Heights, Bishop O'Hara and Mid Valley high schools, as well as semi-professionally with the Scranton Eagles and Northern Tier Bruins.
Bill loved to garden and enjoyed doing projects such as painting, puzzles, creating blue prints, building his model ships, constructing a two-story playhouse, building a backyard deck and even digging his own in-ground pool for his grandchildren. Whether it be his family, students, players or coffee shop friends, he will be sorely missed, but never forgotten by those who are lucky enough to have known him.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Jennifer Eynon Petruzzi and husband, Lucas, Albany, N.Y., Elizabeth Eynon-Sottile and husband,Mark, Dunmore, and a son, Michael B. Eynon and wife, Gloria, Dunmore. Also surviving are grandchildren, Emma Rose, Malina, Traigh, Jerehmy, Nathan, Zachary and Brody; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Anderson; partner, Carol Edwards; brother, Benjamin Eynon and wife, Lisa, Texas; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loyal dog, Buddy.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, David and Thomas Eynon.
A service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
