It is with deep sorrow that William Oliver Penick, 90, Jefferson Township, passed away Friday evening in Geisinger- Community Medical Center in Scranton. He and his loving wife, the former Shirley Mae Hinton had celebrated 48 years of marriage.
Born in Covington, Kentucky, he was affectionately known as Popeye, was an alumnus of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky and was a member of Deke Fraternity. He enjoyed watching the University of Kentucky Basketball and Ohio State Buckeyes Football. He had worked as a sales manager for several linen companies thru out Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York State.
Bill had a way of making all he met feel special and was a great storyteller and always had a good joke to share.
Also surviving are his children, Denise Nicolais and her husband Billy, Holly Zumdick and Liz Anne Jump, grandchildren, Kurtis Jones, Kharen Hauck, Jessica Herindon, Mike Heisel, and John Peters, and nine great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by a daughter Beverly Payton and a son Scott Hemphill.
As per Bill’s request there will be no public funeral. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen 500 Penn Ave Scranton PA 18503 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
