William T. Leggat, Jr., 81, Dickson City, died Thursday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elaine (Sedorovitz) Bittenbender.
Born in Scranton, son of the late William T. Sr. and Rosella Simonson Leggat, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1962 and went on to honorably serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. While enlisted, Bill attended school and obtained his associate’s degree in electronic engineering. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a truck driver and spent most of his years on the road working with some of the biggest rock bands of the 70s and 80s, including the Rolling Stones, Phil Collins, Genesis, the Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, and countless others.
Bill was a member of the Moscow Sportsmen’s Club as well as the National American Legion, and was a volunteer for the Dickson City Fire Department. He was also a HAM radio operator and belonged to numerous amateur radio clubs. He enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, and playing pool in numerous leagues. He even built a miniature railroad train set that was featured on a segment of WNEP NewsWatch 16 TV program “On the Road with Mike Stevens.” Above all, he was a loving husband and dedicated caregiver to his cherished wife, Elaine, who became his devoted caregiver over the last 2 ½ years.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, William T. Leggat, III of Plymouth; his brother Robert Leggat and wife Donna of Dagsboro, DE; nephews; and many loving cousins.
Special thanks to his dear friend Carol Hunter for all her care and help during his recent illness. Also, the family would like to thank the nurses, especially Cheryl, the doctors, and staff of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Henry Cancer Center for their devotion and care for William over the last few years, and definitely listening to his jokes! Also, thank you to the staff of Geisinger-CMC cancer unit for their compassionate care as well.
